Home: Contractors and Subcontractors:
Construction Industry
The legislation affecting the construction industry is complex. Contractors and sub-contractors are bound by regulations that are more stringent than most other sectors of industry. The law says “...It is the responsibility of all contractors to get the employment status of their sub-contractors right. If you get this wrong you may face penalties and back payments…”. Failure to comply can consign the business to financial ruin.
At Collett Hulance we have the expertise to advise and help you to understand the issues surrounding employment status. We can assist in establishing the status of your workers and, where necessary, advise of the alternatives to using employed staff. We have a good working relationship with Hudson Contract Services Ltd who can deal with your workers on an independent basis ensuring that you avoid status enquiries from HM Revenue & Customs.
We will advise you in matters relating to status enquiries and attend meetings as required with HM Revenue & Customs. We have had considerable success resisting Revenue attempts to withdraw contractors certificates. Should you have to attend an appeal meeting regarding status or contractor certificate renewals we will be pleased to make the appeal representations on your behalf.
We will assist you in meeting your Construction Industry deduction scheme reporting requirements, including advising on tax and other deductions to be made and dealing with the completion of end of year returns.
We believe that it is the right of clients to be able to operate their businesses using the flexibility of labour-only subcontract resources without the threat of financial penalties. At Collett Hulance we have the expertise and contacts to preserve that right for our clients.
